The origins of tantra

All indian religions and philosophies go back to the Vedic traditions, that date back to the time of the indogermanic immigration. Approximately 300 years b.C. word spread throughout China of the philosopher and teacher Lao Tse, similar to Socrates in Ancient Greece. Lao Tse is known today as the founder of Taoism. The Tao represents the origin of all being. It is like the “logos” from Sokrates etc.the term of the wise order in the universe that manifests itself in every large and small living thing.

The two main forces In our world are termed in China Yin (female) and Yang (male) and in India as Shiva (M) and Shakti (F). The goals of any student of the truth are to find the boundaries between the self and the other, the inner and the outer and to tear them down. This serves the higher principle of melting with the "unique principle", into the cosmic ground on all levels on beingness.

From the 5. century a.d. onwards, Tantrism strongly influenced the religious and public life in India. Religion and philosophy were based on the insights of the vedic Sanskrit scripts, but with a significant difference: The equality of man and woman was demanded, since yin and yang were acknowledged as equally important inspite of their different qualities. This was the result of the basic understanding that yin and yang could be most intensely expressed through the sexual energies.
